The turkey, bacon, avocado, cole slaw sandwich was fabulous today!

The food was fantastic. The staff is lacking in personality and humor but they get the job done. My kids LOVED the soups and tried things they had not tried in the past and enjoyed it. The oatmeal was some of the best I have had. Ate there twice while on vacation. Would have eaten there everyday if I could. Would like to see less woodlan bugs in the place but it was not gross. Would so totally go back, again and again. Dont think the staff will ever develop a sense of humor.

On a recent 3 day stay at Deep Creek, we had lunch at this place the first 2 days. On the third day, we felt stupidly compelled to eat somewhere else, and for the rest of the day we kept saying, "Why didn't we go to Canoe on the Run again?" They have soups, sandwiches and salads, including daily specials. They also have baked goods and coffee. We loved our delicious sandwiches and cookies. Everything, but especially the bread, was really fresh and delicious and the atmosphere there was just incredibly relaxed. My only complaint was that both times we were there, they had run out something on the menu that I wanted. The menu is not that big, either, so it is really important to have enough of what you are offering. Seems like sort of poor planning.

Great ambiance, great espresso bar, great breakfast burrito... enough said. Get the breakfast burrito and a mocha, enjoy the view, enjoy the music, enjoy the relaxing atmosphere!

They were closed at 3:30pm on a nice Saturday. Why would you close mid-day?

Enjoyed the laid back ambience of this place.....food looked tasty and well made, but such huge portions that I ended up with coffee only.

Super yummy sandwiches at lunchtime at really good prices. Decent breakfast although the selection always changes, so you're never quite sure what they'll have. My only gripe is that the service can be deadly slow--this is not the place if you're in a hurry. But the deck is fantastic and the lunches are delicious.

Canoe on the Run was great!! A lovely little hidden gem. The quesadillas were simply delicious; not too much cheese, freshly made, with good quality chicken and chipotle sour cream. Yum! My husband's focaccia chicken sandwich was to die for and my turkey and gouda was light and tasty. We are so glad we tried this place. Don't let the simple menu or pictures online fool you, they are well worth the trip and the food is packed with flavor.

I love coming here whenever I am at the lake! It's a wonderful spot to grab some breakfast or lunch. It's the only place on this planet that I will order oat meal (trust me, it's that good). Overall, its a cool place to get some good food and a hot drink. The inside is very relaxing with lots of windows, or you can sit outside on the balcony. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit!

Cute little place and friendly service. Sandwiches were very good, freshly made, as were the salad and fruit cup. I knocked off a star because they had three soups that day, all of which had beans! How about some variety for those of us prone to indigestion? Otherwise, highly recommended.

This place has decent coffee and a cool locale. But the people that work there act as if they are doing you a favor by letting you be there. They never have decaf brewed.

Nice little Cafe tucked into the hilly terrain of Deep Creek Lake. Great atmosphere and equally great food. My wife really enjoyed her sandwich which was the cafe special. She said it was the best sandwich she has in a while. I had the turkey bacon cheddar sandwich. The bread seemed freshly baked. Very good! The entire family enjoyed their meals and entire experience.

Open for breakfast and lunch only, Canoe On The Run is a landmark restaurant in Deep Creek Lake. The name alone enticed us to give this charming breakfast cafe a try. We were the first customers to arrive Sunday morning, July 13...which meant we had first choice of the pastries! The menu isn't overflowing with items to choose from, but really does that matter if what's on the menu is oh-so-delicious? I think not! I had the oatmeal with fruit and brown sugar. I was impressed that the oatmeal was actually good and not a mushy mess. My husband had the breakfast burrito with spinach ~ SO good! Yes, I had to have a bite...or two...or three of his! We both had a pastry with our coffee. The setting of this restaurant is off the beaten path which makes for a pleasant eating experience. Plenty of outdoor tables! Prices are reasonable too. The only draw back, and the reason for 4.5 stars, is the lack of a nice coffee bar. Don't get me wrong, the coffee is good, and refills are self serve, but honestly it feels uncomfortable filling your coffee mug when the waitress is waiting to fill another customers mug from the same coffee dispenser.

Always fresh menu! Options are somewhat limited to soups, salads, sandwiches and pastries -- bit always seems fresh and inspired food. Recent avocado mango chicken salad was especially good. Chicken curry sandwich and chicken noodle soup are standouts!! Coffee and espresso options are good too. They are not open for dinner so plan on a big breakfast or lunch visit.

Great locally owned, coffee house, restaurant. Food was excellent, fresh and seasonal, with a nod to healthy, which I always love in a restaurant. Can't wait to go back!

The breakfast bakery items are great but clearly they will serve items ( chocolate croissant we had today) that was a day old. The lunch items are generally delicious and the specials are interesting and tasty. The owner is the most unpleasant, unsmiling restaurant owner I've EVER encountered. It's probably the best breakfast / lunch place in deep creek but giving money to a restaurant where the owner is so unappreciative and unpleasant definitely takes away from the enjoyment.

Amazing breakfast, sangria soup and sandwiches.... Small town local place...plenty of outdoor seating and pup friendly... Great place... Great service.

This place is fab! I wish I lived closer - I'd definitely be a frequent customer. As it was, I had only the opportunity to lunch here during a weekend in Deep Creek. My gf raved about the vegetarian chili and her mocha, while I very much enjoyed my pastrami sandwich and vegetable soup. The only thing I didn't love about it was my cranberry bliss bar which had this weird aftertaste I couldn't place. Lots of vegetarian options is always a plus, and I really enjoyed their cosy set up.

I debated 4 or 5 stars, so really I'd give it a 4.5 if I could; it was definitely excellent, but not out-of-this-world delicious. Food is refreshing compared to other options in the area--I dig a good deli sandwich. Be aware, Canoe On The Run is currently only open for breakfast and lunch. I ate lunch here, so I can't comment on the breakfast, although based on my experience I would guess that it is probably good, as well. This is a great place to go if you feel like going out but don't want pizza or something heavy. Prices are very reasonable. I just had a turkey sandwich, but for some reason it seemed better than any turkey sandwich I've ever made myself. All of the ingredients (bread, meat, cheese, greens, etc.) seemed super fresh and high quality. They also have some delicious homemade desserts that are hard to resist. P.s. if you like this place, I recommend Moonshadow in Accident, MD for dinner.

This place was delicious. It took us 3 tries to get here when they were open, but it was well worth it!

Great food and a great atmosphere. The specials are interesting and the prices reasonable. You should know that the food here is not run of the mill (plain turkey sandwiches are not what you will find) so just know before you go if you have a picky eater.

Another of my favorite places in Garrett County! I've been here several times. It's really nice to sit on the deck and have lunch on a nice summer day with a glass of wine (and their selection is great). I'm a vegetarian, so I usually get the SW veggie wrap. I also get sucked in with the soups of the day. There's usually something I just can't turn down. This is my go-to lunch place in DCL. I've also had their breakfast burrito. It is good, I won't lie. I had to try it because I think my own breakfast burritos are the bomb. I like theirs, but I'm not altering my personal recipe based on it. ~Christine Zellers CEO, LBDC

The coffee deserves 5 stars, but the food was not good at all. We came here for lunch on our way out of town, so I'm rating the food with 1 star. The soup was bland with no flavor. The 2 sandwiches we had were just ok. One was a turkey deli meat with mango, guacamole and curry mayo. The combination didn't work. The other sandwich was dry and had precooked processed chicken. The kids menu consisted of Hot Pockets (store bought), corn dogs (frozen), ham & cheese or turkey & cheese on white bread, pb&j, and quesadillas. After reading the previous reviews, we expected a great meal, but we were really disappointed. We'd go back for the coffee but not for the food.

The sandwiches were great-- way more interesting ingredients and combos than I thought we would find in the area. While the menu has some gems, definitely check out the chalkboard for the daily specials. That's where you'll find the most adventurous and yummy stuff. Basil mayo, roasted red peppers, fresh ciabatta-- all seem to make regular appearances! Oh, and get something sweet from the dessert case to nosh on while you wait. I'd recommend the lime melt away cookie. (you're welcome!)

Canoe is a great eating option while at Wisp. We had one breakfast and one lunch here. They offer a huge selection of freshly baked pastry & cookie options. For lunch, if they have the poblano chicken rice soup...get it!! I have been trying to duplicate the recipe since we got home without any luck. Prices are reasonable here and the staff is super friendly. The size of the restaurant is deceiving. There were not as many tables inside as the size of the building would lead you to believe...so get in a bit early to beat the lunch rush if you are planning to eat in. They also offer fast to-go service. It looked like a lot of people were grabbing a sandwich for the road on their way out of town.

Really good breakfast sandwiches! We come here every time we are at the lake. They use fresh ingredients. If they are busy it can take a few extra minutes to get your meal but it's well worth it.

Stopped here for breakfast on our way out of town. Disappointed we didn't stop earlier as we would have been back frequently. Anyway we stopped this morning and I had the breakfast burrito and my wife made a special request due to diet allergies (gluten and dairy). The burrito was different than I am typically used to but it was excellent. Fresh ingredients and excellent flavor. They catered very well to my wife's food allergies. All employees were very helpful. My wife ordered a hazelnut latte and it was very good.

We grabbed sandwiches before going on a hike. Roast beef was good. Pastrami was good. I think the roast beef is better than the pastrami.

Stopped in to grab a quick lunch for the family. Ordered two Reubens, Chicken, and Turkey. The sandwiches were fantastic! And the service was quick and outstanding. Same price, better food, better service, and just as fast as Subway.

Best meal I had in Deep Creek. Because of their confusing ordering process (first you order, then you pay ... and leave a tip!, then someone brings you your food), I was prepared to dislike it. How long does it take to make a sandwich? But I found it was well-priced, with a great environment, and cheerful staff. It's only soups and sandwiches though, so the scale is pretty limited. Please open a full-scale restaurant! Deep Creek needs it.

Great coffee, soup, sandwich shop with a real cozy, warm feel. They have daily specials that include wraps, soups, salads, sandwiches. I would definately go here again and get a yummy lunch. They are coffe and lunch place so they do close early, as they don't have a dinner menu.

Original food with a very friendly staff and an inviting atmosphere. They close mid-afternoon but have fantastic lunch and breakfast. Canoe always has some great specials including sandwiches and soups, I'm not positive but I would assume it's mostly homemade or at least local. This is another one of deep creek's hidden gems because it is a little north of most of the action and has an awkward entrance. Stop by year round and enjoy.
